1887 - Addison, VT.   Raymond I. Smith, known as Pappy, was born. He operated carnival games and games of chance through the United States. In 1935 he moved to Reno to help his sons, Harold Sr. and Raymond A., manage Harolds Club.

1982 - Las Vegas, NV.   Continental Hotel & Casino opens at 4100 Paradise Road, Las Vegas.

1993 - Las Vegas, NV.   First CC & GTCC convention at the Aladdin Hotel.

1996 - Las Vegas Nevada .   Stratosphere Las Vegas is a hotel and casino located on Las Vegas Boulevard just north of the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.The property's signature attraction is the 1,149 ft Stratosphere Tower, the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States, and the second tallest in the Western Hemisphere, surpassed only by the CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario. It is the tallest building west of the Mississippi River and also the tallest structure in Las Vegas and in the State of Nevada. The hotel is a separate building with 24 stories, 2,427 rooms and an 80,000 sq ft (7,400 m2) casino. The Stratosphere is owned and operated by American Casino & Entertainment Properties.While the traditional definition of the Strip excludes the Stratosphere, it is often included in travel guides as a Strip attraction. Using this alternate definition, the Stratosphere is the northernmost of the major Strip resorts, and is the only Strip hotel actually located within the City of Las Vegas.

1931 - Reno, NV.   The Northern Club opened on the ground floor of the Commercial Hotel, at 207 North Center Street, one of the earliest clubs to open after gambling was legalized in Nevada. It was operated by Felix Turillas, Sr. and John Etchebarren until December of 1940, when they sold the club. It reopened as the Barn, later it was the Bonanza Club and Harrah's Bingo.

1981 - Atlantic City, NJ.   Brighton Casino becomes the Sands Casino.

2017 - Monday

1964 - Reno, NV.   Wild Bill Hickok's Golden Gulch opened at 34 East Second Street. .

1974 - Las Vegas, NV.   King 8 Casino opens at 3330 West Tropicana Road, Las Vegas.

1975 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Marina Hotel and Casino, located at 3805 Las Vegas Boulevard, opened in 1975 as a 714-room hotel and casino. In 1989, Kirk Kerkorian bought the Marina Hotel and the Tropicana Country Club, behind the Marina and across Tropicana Avenue from Tropicana and San Rémo hotels to obtain the site that would become the home of the MGM Grand. As Kerkorian saw the Marina as a stable and solidly built resort, Kerkorian decided not to destroy the hotel, but to build around it. During that time, the Marina was known as the MGM-Marina Hotel. The Marina closed on November 30, 1990, and ground was broken for the new casino-hotel complex on October 7, 1991. The Marina hotel building still exists as the west wing of the main hotel building. .

1975 - Las Vegas, NV.   Silver City opens at 3001 Las Vegas Blvd. South, on the Las Vegas Strip.

1995 - New Orleans, LA.   Harrah's casino opens.

2007 - Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.   Casino in the Gran Melia Resorts and Villas opens, was the Paradisus Hotel.

1931 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Meadows opens, Las Vegas - owned by Tony Cornero, who would later begin building the Stardust.

1953 - Reno, NV.   Jolly Jolly Club opened at 2600 South Virginia Street. It was a bar with one 21 game, until July of 1954, when it became the PJ Club which didn't have gaming.

1950 - Washington, DC.   TThe U.S. Senate established a five-member Special Committee to Investigate Organized Crime in Interstate Commerce. Sensitive to the desire of several standing committees to conduct the investigation, Senate party leaders selected the special committee's members from the committees on Interstate Commerce and the Judiciary, including each panel's senior Republican. As chairman, the Democratic majority designated an ambitious freshman—Tennessee Senator Estes Kefauver.

1978 - Reno, NV.   In 1975, officials from the Metro-Goldwyn Mayer Company began to scout out Reno locations for their proposed high rise hotel-casino they wanted to model after their very high profile Las Vegas casino, the MGM Grand. Following a deal with and approval from the City Council, MGM purchased land at the intersection of Mill and 2nd Streets, at that time a gravel pit. The Summer of 1976 saw construction begin on the 26 story, 1,015 room property that would then be one of the largest in the world. After two years of fast tracked construction, the building opened with fanfare, fashion and media attention on May 3, 1978.

1993 - Joliet, IL.   Harrah's casino opens.

1999 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Venetian Hotel & Casino opens at 3335 Las Vegas Blvd., on the Las Vegas Strip.The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino is a five-diamond luxury hotel and casino resort situated between Harrah's and The Palazzo on the east side of the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, on the site of the old Sands Hotel.

2004 - Shreveport, LA.   Sam's Town casino opens.

2015 - Las Vegas, NV.   In February 2015, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority acquired the Riviera hotel and its associated land for $182.5 million. The property was leased back to its existing operators, Paragon Gaming, who officially closed the establishment on Monday, May 4, 2015. After winding down operations the hotel was closed and demolished to make way for a planned expansion of LVCVA's Las Vegas Global Business District exhibit and meeting center project.Due to its size, the Riviera was demolished through two separate implosions conducted in June and August 2016, while smaller demolition work took place during the summer. Much of the property was demolished during the first implosion. Asbestos was discovered in the hotel's Monte Carlo tower and was removed prior to the implosion. Demolition cost a total of $42 million.The first implosion took place at 2:35 am on June 14, 2016, taking down the 24-story Monaco tower. A firework display and countdown led up to the implosion.
