The Museum of Gaming History is growing and we need your support. The MoGH came to life in 2014 with the showing of exhibits at the El Cortez Hotel and the Mob Museum. 2001 - Hammond, IN.   Empress casino closes, becomes Horseshoe casino.

2019 - Monday

1950 - Las Vegas, NV.   The Westerner opens at 23 Fremont Street, downtown Las Vegas.

2019 - Wednesday

1892 - Reno, NV.   Lew Hymers was born, in Reno, Nevada. Lew Hymers was an artist and caricaturist whose work was used on numerous casino ads, matchbooks, postcards and even a casino chip, in the 1940's and 1950's.

1931 - Reno, NV.   The New York Club opened at 224 North Center Street. The glamorous Club was designed to appeal to ladies, both local and those who were in town to establish the residency required to obtain a divorce. In 1935 the Greyhound Company bought the club, and established a bus depot at that location.

1940 - Reno, NV.   Martin's Bar, at 22 East Commercial Row, was licensed for poker only. It closed less than eight months later.

1992 - Badsteben, Germany.   Harold Smith, Jr. passed away at the age of 59, in a cancer clinic in Germany.

2019 - Thursday

1994 - Tunica, MS.   Treasure Bay Casino opens.

2006 - Las Vegas, NV.   Boardwalk became a public corporation (Boardwalk Casino, Inc.) in 1994. The carnival facade was built the following year and a 15-floor, 451-room tower was finished in 1996. It was later acquired by Mirage Resorts in 1997. When MGM took ownership in 2000, the Holiday Inn name was dropped.The hotel and casino closed on January 9, 2006, and the main hotel tower was imploded on May 9, 2006. The property is now the location of CityCenter.

2019 - Friday

1962 - Reno, NV.   The United Club Room, 27 East Douglas Alley, was licensed for slots, blackjack and poker. It operated until October 21, 1964.

2019 - Saturday

1935 - Las Vegas, NV.   Frontier Club opens at 117 East Fremont Street, downtown Las Vegas.
